Space to connect, learn, grow, evolve, express, have fun, play and create.
Gyl runs online Art Programs throughout the year, from having fun exploring and playing with watercolours, mark making, exploring layers, natural inspiration, to acrylic abstract landscape painting.
The main purpose for these programs is for people to create space in their day and life to create, connect and have fun. Often the art world holds the belief only certain people can do art or only certain styles are okay, I am here to bust that belief and bring back peoples connection to themselves to have fun, enjoy, explore and connect back to that playfulness kids have when the paint or make things.
No workshop is ever about telling you have to paint or be a certain way, they are about building skills, exploring and looking at the world in a different way. True success no matter what you do, to me when you express from what's inside of you, not how the world wants or has told you how to be.
The courses follow a 6 week or 4 week format of weekly recorded video lessons which you are able to watch in your own space and time, homework, a private social media page to connect with other members and share work, ask questions, discuss your experience, with check in mid-weekly emails and 1:1 email or sky support if needed.
No two courses are ever the same, whilst we might explore the same topic in one of the weeks, e.g colour, you will always get something different or more from each course, videos aren't reused, everything is fresh and constantly growing. Upcoming Courses
The new year. will see a new course start with our online Abstract Landscape course.
This is a great follow on from Go With The Flow, but equally can strand alone as a course if you haven't attended any before.
We will be looking at developing and building skills in sketching, exploring the landscape, your environment mark making, mixed media, patterning, transferring what you see, your inspiration, your sketches, and awareness into your work, and developing and delving deeper into connecting with yourself, your environment and expressing from you body and that deeper place inside yourself. You don't have to live around the countryside to take part, you can equally be inspired by the suburban landscape or images you see. The course will build your strength and confidence in expressing whatever landscape you see. Whilst being an abstract landscape course, you can equally transfer the learning to a more realistic approach in painting if that is your preferred style,

"I’ve loved participating in Gyl’s ‘Go with the Flow’ watercolour course, her approach to art is fun, simple and inspiring. I particularly love the way she creates space to connect and share our experiences. " Australia
"You come for the course and come back for Gyl" UK
"I have had so much fun on this course. I signed up to Gyl’s course and got a whole lot more than I could have expected. Firstly I got to see that it wasn’t really that I hated art, it was more that I experienced a torrent of negative thoughts, and intense pressure to create something magnificent, original, breathtaking and….PERFECT. Going through some of the practises shown by Gyl, I really saw how intense my need was to make perfect lines, make something amazing. " Anon UK
"Gyl’s teaching style is so light hearted, fun and refreshing. I was engaged and I was also breathing (when I stopped listening to the nonsense thoughts) The videos were fun and engaging to watch, and I looked forward to seeing them every week as we got to see Gyl really enjoying herself and in her element. But here’s the catch- she wasn’t doing anything difficult or complex, that would have been hard for us as students to access. On the contrary, what she was showing us was really very simple, but rich with learning too, and her heart was always in it. And what I was learning, on top of techniques and understanding media handling, was how to enjoy the process again. Gyl was so supportive. I felt that I could contact her at any point and that helping us in any way was her pleasure and joy. The Facebook group that she set up was a great place to share our work. It felt a safe and supportive space to post our work and also talk about the full breadth of experience – from hating our work to liking it. What was great was that I may have posted a work that I found difficult to like and then someone would post something completely different about it and really like different things about it. I could tell we were all learning from each other. The different perspectives that people in the group had on a piece of work really helped me to step back and take myself out of the fabricated nonsense I had in my head, and to see the work for what it was and with fresh eyes that could see the worth and beauty in what I had painted. I loved Gyl’s approach because there was magic in the most simple of things, and that gave me the permission to enjoy and discover. It’s like being a child again." Anon, UK
" I certainly loved being part of Gyl's online 'Space - Go with the Flow' watercolour art class and have been amazed at how fun and non-pressured each week of the course was. I hadn't painted since a few attempts as a child and have never seen myself as an artist, so I needed to purchase a set of watercolours etc. I have had so much fun discovering heaps about painting, along with deeply enjoying giving myself the space to explore my expression via a different medium. The other thing I loved was that it was a criticism-free zone so, even if what I painted didn't appeal to me, I didn't see it as a failure. You can't get better than that! I'm definitely going to join the next course." Judy, Australia
"Just want to Credit Gyl Rae online watercolour art class for my now love of playing with this art form. The class was all about exploring techniques so it took all the unconscious pressure I had to ‘create’ a picture off. I just love putting paint to paper and seeing what happens which is super easy with watercolour as it moves about and does whatever. Adding the drawing on top is fun too. Gyl has another class starting soon - highly recommend!!" Vanessa, UK
