One thing I have found over the years is exercise for me is supper supportive for my body, and also my mental health and wellbeing.
I previously worked as a personal trainer, fitness instructor, yoga teacher and kids swimming teacher. I've been at both ends of the same extreme from training really hard, twice a day to nothing at all. Neither of which were supportive or self-loving for myself or my body.
When I trained twice a day I may have looked fit on the outside and fitted the picture of being fit, but in truth I wasn't. My life was roller coaster of emotions way back then, and also full of stimulants like coffee, sugar etc which is what kept me going through the day, not a natural joy for life and vitality, I was actually exhausted all the time.
There have been times where I have done no exercise at all, this left me and my body feeling depleted, drained and run down. So for me it was finding the truth, where I made exercised from self-love and self-care, not exercised to get a better body. However, with a self-loving commitment to exercise, because I want to take care of myself and my body, my body has naturally changed shaped. I'm the fittest I would say I have ever been, and I don't slog it out in the gym. I also know the knock on positive effects exercising has on my relationships, work and life.
For me it has been about making a commitment firstly to myself. I can listen to all those thoughts of I don't have time etc, it's cold out, I'll just do it tomorrow or, I can say no to them and go to the gym. Now I know gyms aren't for everyone, during the summer I prefer to walk outside and use hand weights at home, though at this time of year I tend to like to go to the gym as it's cold out. I can go on a treadmill and walk. I don't spend hours in the gym, nor do I come out dripping in sweat exhausted, I've set myself up a simple walking and weights program.
I have noticed over a very short period of time my body has got a lot stronger on many levels, I feel more fit and have much more energy. I feel more vital. Not too long ago I felt exhausted and I realised in bed the other night, when using Our Cycles App (https://www.ourcyclesapp.com) I no longer feel exhausted, yes there is a tiredness there at times, but not the exhaustion that was around for a long tome. This was a huge revelation for me and has come about from my commitment to myself, to a ten minute walking program to connect to myself, and also my renewed commitment to exercising.
